Question by Dave S: Should I activate my new credit card or not?
I applied for a new 0% interest credit card to pay for my MBA tuition interest free until December ’09. My credit scores range from 795 to 804. My other credit cards have limits of $ 50,000. However, this stupid credit card company only approved me for a $ 500 limit. What happens if I neglect to activate the card? Should I cancel it? Rip it up? What is the best thing to do since this card is a waste of my time?

The account is almost certainly open already — whether or not you activate the card will make no difference to your credit score, it’s just a security measure.

If you know you’re never going to use it, just call them to cancel the contract. You may find that they offer you a better credit limit to keep you as a customer.
